The differences between psychotherapy and success coaching
Though there are some similarities between psychotherapy and success coaching, the two have some significant differences. Psychotherapy is typically focused on alleviating or reducing a mental health problem or behavior. Reduction of symptoms is often the overall goal and diagnoses are often assigned. Success coaching, on the other hand, is focused on making progress toward a goal. Emotional health symptoms are typically seen as secondary - not the focus of treatment but perhaps as issues that might need overcoming in order to make progress toward another goal. My approach tends to be a combination of both psychotherapy and success coaching as I see them as complimentary. Making progress toward goals can help reduce emotional health symptoms and reducing emotional health symptoms can help one make progress toward desired goals.
